Child Abuse

Last year, I remember hearing about this awfully rediculous show called "Toddlers and Tiaras". This show is about Parents who put their kids (birth to ten) in these beauty pageants. I thought it was rediculous, just as most of you would. Thanks to netflix, I sat down one day and watched an episode. I couldn't believe it. Mark and I became hooked and would spend a few evenings when there was nothing else on, watching some of the 9 episodes.
Hard to believe that Mom's would spray tan their 3 year old, put on fake eyelashes, and spend more money on 1 pageant dress than I did on my wedding gown, and hire "pageant coaches". My favorite expenditure is an object they call the "flipper". For girls who are losing teeth, they do these impressions and then the dentist sends them a little retainer that gives them false front teeth--because heaven forbid these girls look like normal little girls with straggly hair, gaping teeth or * gasp* fair skin. Anyways, Mark and I have certainly enjoyed the entertainment we get watching the mentality of these parents who are trying to live vicariously through their daughters. I would consider it a form of mental abuse convincing these daughters that this is the best way for them to learn "life skills". I hardly think that all of us who grew up without 80 sashes, and a billion crowns bigger than our little heads were deprived of learning important life skills as children.

Here are two of my clips...watch out for the sketchy Dad in the second clip. A bit flamish!

(For the record, the girl Ava did win a smaller award, but her dad is beside himself at the end because she didn't win the all-around title. Really? She won "nothing"?)

Seriously!? Can you believe that there are even some parents out there like that? That's just crazy! Those poor little girls!

That is so sad! It's hard enough as a girl being self conscious let a lone be forced into being aware of it when you are still in diapers.
