Day 2 (3 counting our arrival). Iasi must be where the twilight bark began. All you hear all night are dogs ‘barking it up’. In the morning, the birds chip like crazy. Yesterday and today I went to bed around 10/11 and was wide awake by 6am. Much to my dismay, I could not get back to sleep. It may be hard but I may have to forego a 3-hour nap or wait for the time change to seem normal.
I had my first grocery shopping experience yesterday. As you can see, I didn’t buy much. The most complicated things in the store I saw were my rice/veggie frozen mix and fish sticks, which are the equivalent of 3.00 for a box of 10 or so. The only cereal other than what I bought was Nesquik cereal for 15.99 LEI ($5.00) so I bought Balu’s for 2.99LEI. The shopping market (G-Market) is in a shopping center called the Halla Centrala (Holla!) It’s like a 3 story walmart with cell phone store, banks, exchange booth, pizza place (super good!), and some other food stand that smells good. Franzela (bread) is about 40 cents USD and is pretty tasty. The prices here are about average or less than what we pay at home…but imported brands that we have in the US are more expensive. A can of Dole pineapple cost about 12 LEI ($4).

The city isn’t bad. We sure stick out and I hate going anywhere in more than a group of 3 because we’re not only Americans, but a big group of them. It will be a challenge for sure. It does however smell like smoke in a lot of places. It is quite the change to sit at a restaurant and the people across from you are smoking. In general, most people we communicate with are decently friendly such as vendors, but we usually have no idea what they’re saying. Church on Sunday should be interesting.
