Baby Shower

So my mom and sisters threw me a shower shortly after the craziness of the holidays. January 3rd was a bit earlier than I had in mind, but it was to accommodate my sister who was leaving on the 4th to go back to New York, and another sister who was gone from the 25th until the 2nd in Texas. With it being so close to the holidays, I was worried it would be just immediate family that would show up. A handful of friends were able to make it despite holiday and travel madness and it was fun to visit with them a little bit.

Even though our guest list was small and our anticipated guest list was even smaller, my mom still caved in to my request for a Costco sheet cake. About half of it came home with me and I plan on enjoying slices of cake over the next month or two from the freezer. A new mom has told me that it's a great pick me up at a 2AM feeding. Sad fact: the Costco cake at our wedding was better than the "professional" cake we had made. Fun fact: My mom managed to save a few unopened packages of napkins from our wedding 3 1/2 years ago. So I got to have a little nostalgia at the shower. Funny, I figure that only happens to girls who get married and pregnant in the same year.

The party was fairly low-key. A lot of baby shower games can be a bit repetitive or un-classy. Thankfully my sister who was hosting it chose to keep it classy and short. The one game played was having people come up with names for our baby using the letters of mine and Mark's names. There were definitely some interesting ones: Batman, Atari, Tiny Mark, Tam, and Kai. I was surprised that there were actually a few that I would possibly consider as a real name. I think the best part was that multiple sisters of mine came up with the name Marty. Our family loves back to the future so it didn't surprise me too much. It scares me how alike we are sometimes...
Not the best picture of me. I was laughing because seconds earlier I bent over to try and make it look like my face was the head for the onesie cupcake-cake....just me being a dork. Something even motherhood will probably never let me escape.
I felt incredibly blessed to not only have friends and family who came to support and celebrate with me, but for the sweet, adorable, and thoughtful gifts that we will get to use with "Embro".
From Grandma and Grandpa Wyckhuyse. The tag says "Future Executive". This will be perfect for his first day of work with me. :)
Hand made blankets from Mark's aunt and cousins.

Adorable suit from Great-Grandma Geniel. Can't wait until he fits into this for church!
From some of my college friends. This suit was actually bought in North Carolina where one of them is from. Mark said in the south, men pay a lot of money for an adult sized suit like this. We just need to get him some glasses I think!
From Aunt Brenda. She always finds awesome things like this.
Cute onesie from Aunt Cheriss
Adorable hat from one of my sisters. I can't wait to put this on him! Hopefully the warmer weather currently means winter will stick around long enough for us to use it!
From one of my co-workers...she knows me too well. :)
From Mark's mom. Mark wore this suit when he was little. This was also his special blanket.

I didn't take pictures of everything, but we definitely have plenty of cute sleepers, blankets, snuggley toys, and an awesome home-sewn hooded towel which will hopefully get baby boy dry while keeping Mark dry after bath time as well. From this small sampling of outfits, I'm sure you have all concluded the same thing I have: he is guaranteed to be voted best dressed in Provo. =) We can't wait to post pictures of him actually in these cute outfits in a handful of months!
